1- CARPET FEATURES
The warp and weft of this carpet are cotton, and the knots are wool yarn. The yarns are entirely handmade using a kirman (spinning wheel). The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with natural dyes (kök boya). For example, to achieve red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petals; yarns dyed in this manner are called natural-dyed yarns. Carpets made from natural-dyed yarns gain a brighter appearance with use. Furthermore, this carpet is of superior quality in terms of weaving density and is woven with the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; this feature makes it more durable and gives it a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 1,125,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET
Sultani carpets are an important part of the rich carpet weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These carpets were produced especially for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues in the 16th and 17th centuries. These carpets were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Moreover, they were specially produced for the residences of palace inhabitants and high-ranking diplomats of the Ottoman Empire and for palace rooms.
These carpets generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are among the motifs used in Sultani carpets. These motifs not only reflect the aesthetic value of the carpet but also bear traces of the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani carpets are typically colorful and produced in a style that will harmonize with modern and classic furniture.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this carpet is made of wool yarns dyed with natural dyes, chemical-containing carpet shampoo or detergent should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, first thoroughly blot the affected area with a paper towel; then, lather white bar soap and wipe the area with a cloth. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend entrusting the washing of this carpet to a professional carpet cleaner whom you trust and who specializes in hand-knotted carpet cleaning.
