1- FEATURES OF CARPET

The weft and warp of this carpet are cotton knots made of wool yarn. The yarns are also produced entirely by hand using kirman. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed using natural materials, namely madder. For example, to obtain the red color, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals and the yarn takes the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this way are called madder dyed yarns. Carpets produced from yarns dyed with madder dye have a brighter appearance with use. On the other hand, this carpet is a high-quality carpet in terms of weaving density and is woven with the Turkish knot, in other words, the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer life compared to Iranian carpets. Finally, approximately 3,600,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF CARPET

The emergence of Uşak carpets dates back to the 15th century. During this period, carpet making and weaving arts began to spread in the Ottoman Empire, and with this period, Uşak became an important carpet production center. Again, as a result of the capitulations that began during this period, Uşak carpets began to show themselves abroad thanks to the right to trade granted to ambassadors who came to the country.

Uşak Carpets gained serious importance during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent and new quality and patterns specific to Uşak were woven by special weaving masters brought from the Azerbaijan region by Suleiman the Magnificent. The formation of these patterns was designed by decorative artists and painters. Today, our Uşak carpets are still used in homes and are also exhibited in palaces and museums.

3-CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this carpet is made of wool yarns dyed with root dye, carpet shampoo or detergent containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, the relevant part should first be rinsed thoroughly with a paper towel; then, the relevant part should be foamed with white bar soap and wiped with a cloth. It should also be remembered that emergency intervention is very important when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped, the stain will sink into the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend that you have this carpet washed by a professional carpet washer that you trust and who washes hand-woven carpets. If you live in Istanbul, you can contact us for carpet washing.
